LO 1.5 how to write a letter- Mr. Foley

Hey,

Today, Mr. Foley showed us how to write a proper letter for our LO 1.5 and showed us pointers on how to write it. He gave us the printed of the pointers to annotate it to tell us what to do or not. Also, he told us that if our signature is not-readable for our name then we must type our name under it. Plus, we got told that when writing this letter we must have an approprite language and tone to show that it must be a formal language, because we are writing to our Boss (not teacher) as we are the manager/leader of the company and were writing to the Head of the Company (C.S.U.A)
And when writing the letter I must take the role of a manager or any senior staff of the company that took the task given by the client (Mrs. Freear).

Must do:

  • Make the letter brief and no waffling.
  • Do not make it an essay
  • Have an appropriate language

I think that this help he gave us is really good, as it would help me know what to write to the letter we are doing and also giving me an idea.

What do you see yourself in 5 years time?

In 5 years time I might be studying Nursing in a good University or either working to be an animator.

Filling up our folders

Today, in Ms. Connells class we are just filling up our folders making sure that everything are inside our folders, so that on friday when we are handing it in, all of our work, presentations, planning, storyboards, researches, posters, drafts, and evidence are all in the folder so that we do not loose marks.

In her lesson we are just putting all of the evidence from our presentations and printing other presentations that are not printed out.

In lessons 5 and 6 we still have Ms. Connell and we are still continuing with filling up our folders, making sure the folders and blogs are all up to date. Plus, she gave us a recommendation on what to write in our LO 1.5 which is a letter about the whole UNIT 1. After, I filled up my folder I started on doing on my planning on the letter.

Going over Health and Safety

Hey,

Yesterday, we were going over the Health and Safety for our media work. Because we need to show that we know about the Health and Safety when we are taking pictures of the students for our adverts and has taken a permission from the parent/guardian of the student.

We learnt that we have to have a consent form/permission form from the person we are taking pictures of before using their pictures which were taken by us.

After that Mr. Mills showed us two websites that can help us on Health and Safety informations and forms.

LO 1.4 Assessment with Mrs. Freear (client)

Hello,

Today we had our Assessment for our product with Mrs. Freear which is the client. When I went to get assessed, she asked me if the pictures that I used are from the school website or if its the original pictures. The pictures that I used are my own pictures that I took around the school. Also, she asked me why there's a boy in the poster which is I was trying to show that this school is a mixed school which means that the sixth form teach opposite genders too. Also she told me to make the product again which is now including the pieces that I'm missing which is the contact details or the school website of the school. Overall, she likes my product that I showed her but needs to include contact details.

Media with Ms. Connell for friday (10-12-2010)

Hello.

This is the deadline for the LO 1.4 which our final product for the advert of the school. In this class we all sat down with our work and tried to print it and after that we sat down with us giving us comments for our products. Well, for me she told me to change all of the drafts I did, because I did a leaflet for the Sixth form and that is not really advertising the Sixth Form. Also, I have to bring my home laptop because I cannot open my Indesign file as I have the latest version at home.

Media with Mr. Mills and Mr. Foley on thursday (9-12-2010)

Hello,

For the lessons one and two, we had Mr. Mills and in those two lessons we are finishing our adverts for the school whether its Year 7 or Sixth Forms. I am finishing up my Leaflet for sixth formers with the information about the school and the courses given to the students. Also, it shows what the entry requirements for the subjects and the new media diploma course given to the students who only achieved 3-4 GCSEs.

For the third lesson, we had Mr. Foley and we carried on doing our adverts.

Media with Ms. Connell

Hey,

We had Ms. Connell for 3, 5, and 6 periods today.

For starters, in our lesson 3 she told us to take out our draft 1 of LO 1.4 to do a self and peer assessment in our groups of 4 people and when finished she asked us to stick our Adverts/Prints to an A3 paper and plus its 1 A3 each page of advertisement.

Then after lunch, for the 5 and 6 lesson we continued on our adverts in the A3 sheets and we have to analyse them to see what can we improve on and what went well for each. But, after finishing these up we had a discussion of how to analyse the adverts more and what to do in an advert or not. I learnt that to make a good advert we can put BIG BOLD letters so that it is eye-catching to the audience and could make a target for the advert you are doing. E.g. if the advert is based on education, you must focus on academic information and results on exams. After doing this we used the computers to continue our draft 2.

Monday Media Lesson 2

Hello,

Today we had Mr. Mills for our 5 and 6 period. At first we are just discussing on what to continue on doing in the lesson, so some decided to stay, go to the media room to continue the work and some take pictures around the school for LO 1.4.

I went to take pictures of the English Literature A Level class that is going on and manage to take a whole class photo of them working and a solo picture of one boy who is also taking the subject. After, I went to the media room to continue and try to finish my draft 1 for LO 1.4.

Monday Media Lesson

Hello,

Today we have Mr. Foley for our 2nd, 3rd and 4th lesson of the day.

In the 2nd lesson, we just print out our finalised work in LO 1.3 in coloured or in black and white. However, I printed my final draft in the coloured printer and am starting now on the LO 1.4.

In the 3rd and 4th lesson we are still finalising our work and some are starting their draft in LO 1.4. I started my draft 1 on LO 1.4 and I have decided that I will do a leaflet advertising the school and also giving the readers the informations that they wanted to see inside.

Thursday 2nd Dec. Media

In the 2nd December first 2 lesson we were with Mr. Mills and in that lesson. First, we just took pictures for our LO 1.3 and LO 1.4 after taking pictures we head onto the computer room to do our LO 1.3 (print).
We put our pictures to put on our print advert of our school and information about it and we did it in InDesign, because that is what Ms. Connell want.

Then after these 2 lessons with him we had Mr. Foley for only one lesson. And in this lesson in the same of what we did in Mr. Mills. I did my leaflet in InDesign and i tried to finish it.

3rd, 5th and 6th Media with Ms. Connell

Hello,

Today we had 3 media lessons with Ms. Connell.

At first we just went to the computers in pairs to review our knowledge on Photoshop and InDesign. For me at that time I already know some of the buttons in Photoshop, but I couldn't remember what the buttons are for in InDesign, because we did it a long time ago. So, it'll be hard to remember what are the buttons are for.

Second lesson, we had an advert of Rhianna with a mascara and Ms. said to us to try and copy the whole advert by ourselves by using Photoshop first, then Indesign second. It was fun trying to copy the advert, but kind of hard to copy the writing as it is very blurry when you try to zoom it in to see what it says to put into the advert.

On the third lesson, she just ask us to use Indesign to try to make our own advert so that we could use it on our LO 1.3.

5th and 6th Media Lesson

Hey again,

Today we had Mr. Mills as our Media teacher for the last 2 lessons. In this lesson we looked at different school websites, for example; Hammersmith Academy and Paddington Academy. And discuss what can we do on our LO 1.3. Like, doing a questionnaire for a Year 7 or a current Sixth Former and Interviews.

Hammersmith Academy gives out Ipods and Ipads for their 'Open Evenings' raffles and also their site looks like they are advertising their school buildings and not the student, as the welcome page shows the buildings and their facilities that look very modern and expensive.

However, in Paddington Academy they advertise more on their students and not their facilities and buildings. This shows that they look more on how their students are doing and achieving. Plus their site looks welcoming and plain.

2nd, 3rd, 4th Media

Hey,

Today in our 2nd, 3rd, 4th lesson of media with Mr. Foley we did two things for all three lessons.

In our 2nd lesson, we finished annotating our 'Advertising Techniques' which includes different types of advertising. For Example, Newspaper, Magazines, Direct-Mail, Radio, Banner (outdoor), television, internet, internet pop-up ads, small posters in train or buses. Also we looked on the Production of Ads, Regulations and Pros and Cons of advertising.

After this lesson we moved forward to our LO 1.2 (finishing) or LO 1.3 (if you finished on rough work) to think which Year are we going to advertise and what format for the print (poster, leaflet, flyer). Personally, I started my LO 1.3, because I already finished the 1.2. So, I started the draft for the Sixth Form leaflet as this is the print-format that I chose for Sixth Form.

Before finishing the 4th lesson of Media we had a discussion on what to include on our LO 1.3:

  • Brainstorm
  • Researches- How much does it cost on putting up an advert on a train or bus. If, your doing a Leaflet for your chosen Year you have to have a leaflet from another school to analyse on how they advertise their school.
  • Take own pictures for brainstorm or drafts
  • Making a Questionnaire for certain year group
  • Drafts on making the final piece

Ms Connell's Lesson 4

Hey,

Sorry for the late blogging!

Well, for Ms. Connell's lesson she gave us the checklist that we have to do for the LO 1.2. the checklist include:

  • brainstorming
  • collecting information- research
  • images
  • information on different schools
  • font text
  • evidences
  • rough notes and sketches
  • our timed ideas
  • self- assessment
  • developing best idea
All these must go to our folder for LO1.2

I think that this checklist help me do my LO1.2 because it all have the things that we need to put for our task.

1st Assessment with Mr. Foley

Hey,

Today I was assessed by one of our three Media teachers for media diploma, because they have to do the assessment to make sure the students in the course are in the right track of working for the Tasks. Well, today we got assessed and he told us that all of our Evidence and Rough work should go to our folders and not to be thrown away.

For LO 1.1 our folder must have:

  • Evidences
  • Presentation drafts and annotated
  • Researches
  • Evaluation
All these must be in the folder by next thursday, because he is checking our folders if we are on the right track or not.

For LO 1.2 and LO 1.3 we must have the rough work and the developed work completed by next friday as it is the deadline on that day.
  • Annotated work
  • Researches
  • Slogans
  • The adverts must be entertaining
  • Questionnaires for Sixth Formers and Yr 7s
  • Storyboards and Scripts
  • Clear work (even if LO 1.2 are only rough work)
  • Yr 7 and sixth form entry points
  • LO 1.3- developed work must be completed
  • Can take own pictures
As for that I must have these bullet points done by friday to get my scores.

Also, Mr. Foley taught us how to analyse/evaluate our work. He told us that to evaluate we must know the information, reasons, effect and response of the audience to text and what type of audience it must have. To be able to evaluate our work clearly and effectively.

M. Mills lesson for 1st lesson

Hey.

Today we had Mr. Mills for 1st lesson on a thursday morning and in this lesson we looked at videos on one of the competitions that our school 'Convent of Jesus and Mary' compete into. This competition is called 'Rock Challenge' and it was recorded in Hackney Empire on the year 2008. This competition was a dance competition and was competing with different schools too.

We looked at this video, so that it can help us think on what to put on our LO 1.2 which is due next friday. As we're watching it, it gave me an idea that pictures of this competition and rewards from this could go to the print advert that I'm going to do for the Year 7s. Also, a sneak peak (pictures or video) on what Rock Challenge is all about could go to the website that I wanted to do for the Internet format of advertising.

By putting this into the adverts can show that students and parents that this is a good school, because we take part on competitions and show that different people with different cultures get together to dance!

I think that 'Rock Challenge' can be a good thing for the advert that I wanted to do for the Year 7s, because it shows that in this dance competition can be an opportunity that different schools could get together and compete, but also to have different people in cultures dance together as a whole community. As the video that we watched showed different types of dance and making this dance might need a help from a person who is in that culture too. Like in an indian dance they did, at the from there is an indian student leading them.

This can be a good thing for the Sixth Forms, because MAYBE you could take part in this type of challenge. Like just helping out the dancers, planning or maybe the choreography too.

Self Assessment 1.2

SELF ASSESSMENT FOR 1.2 ROUGH SKETCHES OF ADVERTS (7 & 6th form)

Today in class I had to do four rough sketches of print and internet for both Year 7 and Sixth form. We did this sketch to show how we will going to do our advertisement for our school. My print and webpage (internet) for Year 7s is more child-friendly and have information for their parents. However, in Sixth Form I made it more adult like as it is mainly focused on the student and not the parent itself.

My advertising focus for year 7 is to make the poster and webpage more friendly that also gives out the information about the school and the kind of environment it gives to the students studying there.
What went well about my year 7 adverts are the pictures and informations shown in the sketches that I did. Also, the poster that I drew shows the positive effect of the school to the student as the student will learn and have fun at the same time. As for the webpage it is very visual, because it have a lot of pictures and plus theres a lot of information going to you straight away.
The year 7 adverts would be even better if I have the images I wanna have for the posters and webpage and would like to know where I could put the posters to advertise it to others.

My advertising focus for the sixth form is to advertise the school mainly to students in particular and not the parents itself.
What went well about my sixth form adverts are the flyer for the print advert have a lot of information and visuals in it already. The webpage is very adult-like as it have simple page with just information about the school and about the courses given to the students.
The sixth form adverts would be even better if the flyer and webpage would be more persuasive and less information, because the people reading it might get bored.

In the peer assessment I learned that I need the sketches to be more descriptive.

Out of all the adverts I would like to further develop the webpage for the Sixth Formers because i would like to advertise the sixth form to other people by doing a webpage that would persuade them.

Out of all the adverts I would not like to further develop the flyer for the sixth formers because it seems like it just need a lot of information and make it look boring with just pictures and informations in it.

Lesson 5 and 6 with Mr. Mills

Hey again..

After lunch, we had the remaining two media lessons with Mr. Mills.

Firstly, we were shown the different private and public schools' website. Some of the schools that you have to pay for da tuition (private- U.S term) have a very boring website, because they only have the information about the school and it seems like the website is really dry. However, even if their school site is dull and boring they still use a lot of technology in it too. For example, one of the many schools that we went on looked boring BUT they have a video showing how their school is really good and such. Plus, that school is for girls and boys about 13-18 years old. They also have their own horse stables, lake, fishing place, dorms, swimming pool, etc.

After that one lesson we went to the media room where the sites are unblocked so we could do our blogs already.

Mr. Foley told us that if our blogs are not up-to-date then we cant pass or have a good grade in our Learning Objective 1.2 & 1.3

Overall, i think that this lessons are really good, because it can help us how to research on different schools in how they advertise their schools in different ways.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th lesson of Media- Mr. Foley

hey...

Second Lesson

For the second lesson of media with Mr. Foley is that he was telling us about what we're going to do on LO 1.2 which are rough work and we don't need to make our research and planning neat, as we are finishing and making the product on LO 1.3 and LO 1.4.

In this task we have to:

  • Research on how we should advertise our school. (Print, TV, Radio or Internet)
  • Look and analyse how other schools advertise their Year 7s and Sixth Forms
  • Brainstorms (ideas)
  • You could also do a rough sketches of story boards
  • You have to know who are your Target Audience are, Year 7 TA are the parents then students, but Sixth Form TA are the students itself
Overall, for this 2nd lesson we were just reminded again on what we are supposed to do for our task.

Third Lesson

Third lesson of Media is with Mr. Foley again, but this time we are not talking about the things that we're supposed to put on our advertisement. In this lesson we're making our notes on the 'Advertising Techniques' that we are analysing in the class.
'Advertising Techniques' is about how we could advertise our product effectively into different formats.

Like:
  • Print- Magazines, Newspaper, Leaflets, Brochures, Posters
  • TV
  • Radio- Announcements
  • Internet- Facebook, Twitter, School Sites
We looked over these formats and made our annotations on how we could use them for our advertisement. For example, making an advertisement on magazines is good, but you have to make sure you pick the right magazine that only around London and NOT Nationwide. By doing this, the ideas are forming up in our heads for our planning and researching. Then after annotating the different formats used for advertising, Mr. Foley told us to go to the computer and start our brainstorm, because we already have ideas on what to do...

Fourth Lesson

Lesson before lunch we have the 4th Media lesson with Mr. Foley, we are doing our Brainstorms for the Year 7 and Sixth Form advert. For my spider diagram I did Year 7 first and did all media formats for advertising (print, radio, internet, TV), but will just pick the best two to analyse and make further research.

YR 7:
I would like to do Print and Internet, because for print i'd like to do Child-friendly and colourful posters as the student might like it more visuals than writing and they are not really interested to ALIS grades yet. Information for parents too if the school can support their children or not.
I chose Internet, because some people are not able to go to the Open Evenings, so by having school site can be really good and also by making a Virtual Tour for the site would be great for the people who are not able to go to open evenings and only by internet only.

Evaluation

To make this better It would be better if i finished the planning earlier so that I'm able to put the brainstorm for the sixth form. Also, the researches for the other schools too.

Mr Foley's Lesson 18.11.10

Hey again,

We had 3rd lesson with Mr Foley today. And in this lesson we used the computers and got the "Diploma Advertising" file to save in our usb to make our own notes on it. This file shows us about advertising and its techniques on how to advertise products effectively.

This is really important in my point of view, because it can really help me on how to do advertising in our next assignment in Media. It shows us what advertising meant and how to advertise it in the right Target Audience.

Also, before leaving for 4th lesson he told us what our mark out of 10 in our Task 1.1 Advertising Powerpoint Presentation...

Well... I'm kind of OK on what I got, but I want to get higher mark than this one in the next task..

Mr Mills' lesson 18.11.10

Evening guys!

Well its kind of late now to do my evaluation for our media lesson today in 1 and 2 periods with Mr Mills. In his first part of the lesson he showed us the different videos in different schools for their 'Open Evenings' for 6th form and year 7s.

He showed us one from our school CJMHS' current video about the schools' Sixth Form Consortium when they asked the current and past students in 6th form about what subjects they did or doing right now.

We also seen the past videos on our school's Open Evening for year 7s and sixth form too. The videos have music, video footage, pictures all together and its all well made.

Cardinal Hinsley's Sixth Form video (2008) is not that long and not much people are shown in the video.

St. Gregory's Sixth Form video show us that they have a lot of courses in there.

Lesson 5&6 on Media...

We are back from half term and I'm kind of busy now with homeworks on media. Having Media for 5/6 lessons today worn me out..

Well I will tell you what I learnt in Media today..

  • Mr Mills showed us another way to make our presentation much more exciting and creative! But if we want to sign up on this website we have to put our school e-mail. As its only allowed to be used by either students or teachers.
  • Second, is that he gave us a paper that tells us that if we are making a reflective log, we have to use different skills. We have to be both objective and personal. Also, we have to be very descriptive in everyway we do for our course in Media.
  • Thirdly, is that he gave us pointers for different vocabulary if we are making another reflective log for our media lessons.
The best moment for the lesson was when he showed us this site that can make our presentation look creative and fun. It also looked like the mose exciting way for presentations.

>>   http://www.prezi.com   <<
This is the website that makes your presentation a bit more creative and fun.

Mr Mills' Media Lesson

Hey There...

Today in 1st and 2nd lesson we had media with Mr Mills. In his class we got to set up our own company as a whole class and decided to pick 'Don Entertainment' as our name it is an advertising company if you don'n know yet...In our task we have 10 final candidates from 2000 candidates. And from these final 10 we had to pick 2 people that we think that is available to be on the job. The 10 candidates have to tell us their qualities and skills to fit into the job.

Also we learnt what the skills you need to have to fit into the 'Media Industry'. The qualities you need to have to be in the media industry is that you have to be a good listener, have a good communication skills, must be patient and etc... Plus you have to have an open and creative mind if you wanted to be in this kind of industry in the future.

Horror Films

First Written Blog..

This is my Media Diploma Blog.
I started studying this course since September 2010 and its been really fun. Well, some of the work is really exhausting and stressing because of the work that was set for us to do. But over all its really good and also can BOOST up your confidence if you're so shy and finding it hard to stand up in front of the class and present your powerpoints.
Although, I said that its exhausting and tiring then you can still have fun with group works and doing your work on the computers. Plus, we had a media lesson where we can act and learn how to use the lighting in the studio..
By doing that you can be more confident and take away your shyness.

So far in my blog you can see the powerpoints that I uploaded... One of them is about Horror Films and others are about Media Adverts and Journalism..
