Hello,
Today we had 3 media lessons with Ms. Connell.
At first we just went to the computers in pairs to review our knowledge on Photoshop and InDesign. For me at that time I already know some of the buttons in Photoshop, but I couldn't remember what the buttons are for in InDesign, because we did it a long time ago. So, it'll be hard to remember what are the buttons are for.
Second lesson, we had an advert of Rhianna with a mascara and Ms. said to us to try and copy the whole advert by ourselves by using Photoshop first, then Indesign second. It was fun trying to copy the advert, but kind of hard to copy the writing as it is very blurry when you try to zoom it in to see what it says to put into the advert.
On the third lesson, she just ask us to use Indesign to try to make our own advert so that we could use it on our LO 1.3.

5th and 6th Media Lesson
Hey again,
Today we had Mr. Mills as our Media teacher for the last 2 lessons. In this lesson we looked at different school websites, for example; Hammersmith Academy and Paddington Academy. And discuss what can we do on our LO 1.3. Like, doing a questionnaire for a Year 7 or a current Sixth Former and Interviews.
Hammersmith Academy gives out Ipods and Ipads for their 'Open Evenings' raffles and also their site looks like they are advertising their school buildings and not the student, as the welcome page shows the buildings and their facilities that look very modern and expensive.
However, in Paddington Academy they advertise more on their students and not their facilities and buildings. This shows that they look more on how their students are doing and achieving. Plus their site looks welcoming and plain.

2nd, 3rd, 4th Media
Hey,
Today in our 2nd, 3rd, 4th lesson of media with Mr. Foley we did two things for all three lessons.
In our 2nd lesson, we finished annotating our 'Advertising Techniques' which includes different types of advertising. For Example, Newspaper, Magazines, Direct-Mail, Radio, Banner (outdoor), television, internet, internet pop-up ads, small posters in train or buses. Also we looked on the Production of Ads, Regulations and Pros and Cons of advertising.
After this lesson we moved forward to our LO 1.2 (finishing) or LO 1.3 (if you finished on rough work) to think which Year are we going to advertise and what format for the print (poster, leaflet, flyer). Personally, I started my LO 1.3, because I already finished the 1.2. So, I started the draft for the Sixth Form leaflet as this is the print-format that I chose for Sixth Form.
Before finishing the 4th lesson of Media we had a discussion on what to include on our LO 1.3:
- Brainstorm
- Researches- How much does it cost on putting up an advert on a train or bus. If, your doing a Leaflet for your chosen Year you have to have a leaflet from another school to analyse on how they advertise their school.
- Take own pictures for brainstorm or drafts
- Making a Questionnaire for certain year group
- Drafts on making the final piece

M. Mills lesson for 1st lesson
Hey.
Today we had Mr. Mills for 1st lesson on a thursday morning and in this lesson we looked at videos on one of the competitions that our school 'Convent of Jesus and Mary' compete into. This competition is called 'Rock Challenge' and it was recorded in Hackney Empire on the year 2008. This competition was a dance competition and was competing with different schools too.
We looked at this video, so that it can help us think on what to put on our LO 1.2 which is due next friday. As we're watching it, it gave me an idea that pictures of this competition and rewards from this could go to the print advert that I'm going to do for the Year 7s. Also, a sneak peak (pictures or video) on what Rock Challenge is all about could go to the website that I wanted to do for the Internet format of advertising.
By putting this into the adverts can show that students and parents that this is a good school, because we take part on competitions and show that different people with different cultures get together to dance!
I think that 'Rock Challenge' can be a good thing for the advert that I wanted to do for the Year 7s, because it shows that in this dance competition can be an opportunity that different schools could get together and compete, but also to have different people in cultures dance together as a whole community. As the video that we watched showed different types of dance and making this dance might need a help from a person who is in that culture too. Like in an indian dance they did, at the from there is an indian student leading them.
This can be a good thing for the Sixth Forms, because MAYBE you could take part in this type of challenge. Like just helping out the dancers, planning or maybe the choreography too.

Lesson 5 and 6 with Mr. Mills
Hey again..
After lunch, we had the remaining two media lessons with Mr. Mills.
Firstly, we were shown the different private and public schools' website. Some of the schools that you have to pay for da tuition (private- U.S term) have a very boring website, because they only have the information about the school and it seems like the website is really dry. However, even if their school site is dull and boring they still use a lot of technology in it too. For example, one of the many schools that we went on looked boring BUT they have a video showing how their school is really good and such. Plus, that school is for girls and boys about 13-18 years old. They also have their own horse stables, lake, fishing place, dorms, swimming pool, etc.
After that one lesson we went to the media room where the sites are unblocked so we could do our blogs already.
Mr. Foley told us that if our blogs are not up-to-date then we cant pass or have a good grade in our Learning Objective 1.2 & 1.3
Overall, i think that this lessons are really good, because it can help us how to research on different schools in how they advertise their schools in different ways.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th lesson of Media- Mr. Foley
hey...
Second Lesson
For the second lesson of media with Mr. Foley is that he was telling us about what we're going to do on LO 1.2 which are rough work and we don't need to make our research and planning neat, as we are finishing and making the product on LO 1.3 and LO 1.4.
In this task we have to:
- Research on how we should advertise our school. (Print, TV, Radio or Internet)
- Look and analyse how other schools advertise their Year 7s and Sixth Forms
- Brainstorms (ideas)
- You could also do a rough sketches of story boards
- You have to know who are your Target Audience are, Year 7 TA are the parents then students, but Sixth Form TA are the students itself
- Print- Magazines, Newspaper, Leaflets, Brochures, Posters
- TV
- Radio- Announcements
- Internet- Facebook, Twitter, School Sites

Mr Foley's Lesson 18.11.10
Hey again,
We had 3rd lesson with Mr Foley today. And in this lesson we used the computers and got the "Diploma Advertising" file to save in our usb to make our own notes on it. This file shows us about advertising and its techniques on how to advertise products effectively.
This is really important in my point of view, because it can really help me on how to do advertising in our next assignment in Media. It shows us what advertising meant and how to advertise it in the right Target Audience.
Also, before leaving for 4th lesson he told us what our mark out of 10 in our Task 1.1 Advertising Powerpoint Presentation...
Well... I'm kind of OK on what I got, but I want to get higher mark than this one in the next task..

Mr Mills' lesson 18.11.10
Evening guys!
Well its kind of late now to do my evaluation for our media lesson today in 1 and 2 periods with Mr Mills. In his first part of the lesson he showed us the different videos in different schools for their 'Open Evenings' for 6th form and year 7s.
He showed us one from our school CJMHS' current video about the schools' Sixth Form Consortium when they asked the current and past students in 6th form about what subjects they did or doing right now.
We also seen the past videos on our school's Open Evening for year 7s and sixth form too. The videos have music, video footage, pictures all together and its all well made.
Cardinal Hinsley's Sixth Form video (2008) is not that long and not much people are shown in the video.
St. Gregory's Sixth Form video show us that they have a lot of courses in there.

Lesson 5&6 on Media...
We are back from half term and I'm kind of busy now with homeworks on media. Having Media for 5/6 lessons today worn me out..
Well I will tell you what I learnt in Media today..
- Mr Mills showed us another way to make our presentation much more exciting and creative! But if we want to sign up on this website we have to put our school e-mail. As its only allowed to be used by either students or teachers.
- Second, is that he gave us a paper that tells us that if we are making a reflective log, we have to use different skills. We have to be both objective and personal. Also, we have to be very descriptive in everyway we do for our course in Media.
- Thirdly, is that he gave us pointers for different vocabulary if we are making another reflective log for our media lessons.
